Probably it's not the best, but it works. I wish VLC included a codec optimized for screen capture. I've written a screen capture application myself (mirror driver and codec) so I know it isn't as simple as it sounds.
Go to this website:http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ and than follow this instructions:
1) Select Media --> Streaming ...
2) Select "Capture Device" tab.
3) Set "Capture mode" to "Desktop" and set desired frame rate.
4) Click Stream then click Next.
5) Select "File" for "New destination," click Add, then enter a filename (make sure it ends in .webm).
6) Select "Video - VP80 + Vorbis" for "Profile" then click Next.
7) Click Stream
8) Click stop when done
